The RSSB typing test — conducted by the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board (RSSB), renamed from the Rajasthan Subordinate and Ministerial Services Selection Board (RSMSSB) in 2023 — is the same exam candidates still search for as the RSMSSB typing test. This guide covers both halves of it: the two typing speed papers and the two efficiency papers, which together carry 100 marks and all four of which are compulsory.

The whole exam in one table
Four papers, all compulsory, taken in one sitting. Ten minutes and 25 marks each, and the nine-mark minimum applies to every paper on its own — a strong score in one does not rescue a weak score in another.

How marks work — there is no WPM target
Most typing exams set a speed you have to beat. RSSB does not. It pays you per correct word, and the total goes into your merit rank rather than acting as a pass or fail switch. That one difference should reshape how you practise — there is no line to scrape over, only marks to accumulate.

इसका मतलब सीधा है। हिन्दी में 144 सही शब्द आपको बाहर होने से बचा लेंगे, पर परिच्छेद 400 शब्दों का है। जितने आगे जाएँगे, मेरिट में उतना ऊपर। 10,644 पदों की भर्ती में एक-दो अंक का फ़र्क सैकड़ों रैंक का होता है।
The word-lock rule — the one thing that changes everything
Back-Space अभी काम करेगा
जब तक आपने उस शब्द के बाद Enter या Space नहीं दबाया। उसी शब्द के भीतर जितना चाहें सुधार लें।
अब कभी काम नहीं करेगा
Enter या Space दबते ही वह शब्द जम गया। गलत रह गया तो उसके अंक गए — और वापस लौटकर ठीक करने का रास्ता नहीं है।
Every habit a normal typing app builds works against you here. On any ordinary practice site you type at pace, notice a mistake three words later, and go back. Do that in this exam and you will reach for Back-Space on a word that no longer accepts it, lose the seconds anyway, and keep the lost marks.
The correct instinct is to finish each word correctly before the space, even when that feels slower. It does feel slower for the first fortnight. It stops feeling slower after that, and it is the only approach that converts practice hours into marks. Note that this restriction applies to the speed papers only — in the efficiency papers, Back-Space works normally.
What loses you marks
A word earns its marks only if it matches the passage exactly. These are the categories the directions list as earning nothing:

Both versions look identical on screen. The second of each carries redundant keystrokes the software counts as wrong, and you cannot see the difference while typing. This is why improvising key combinations to produce a character quietly costs marks — learn the intended keystroke for each one.

Why DevLys charts online contradict each other
The official directions print a Hindi keyboard image and then warn, directly beneath it, that the keyboard shown is illustrative only, that candidates should check it against the DevLys 010 font, and that some keys may differ from the illustration. Many charts circulating online were traced from that illustration rather than from the font, which is why they disagree. The layout above comes from the verified map our lessons and scoring use, and RSSB's own two worked examples — केवल = dsoy and प = i — are exactly what it produces. The Efficiency Test — 50 marks almost nobody prepares for
Papers 3 and 4 have nothing to do with typing speed. They run in MS Word 2013 and MS Excel 2013 and test whether you can format a document — with a paragraph and a table already loaded on screen and a printed question paper handed to you at the desk. You get 15 separate questions for each language, 25 marks and 10 minutes per language, and the same nine-mark minimum.
Here is the part worth sitting with: these are the cheapest marks in the entire exam. Typing speed takes six to eight weeks of daily drilling to move. Knowing where Page Borders lives in the Design tab takes an afternoon. Candidates routinely spend two months on speed and walk into the efficiency papers having never inserted a header under time pressure.

A six-week plan that actually fits the exam
Week 1
DevLys 010 install करें और होम रो पकड़ें
फॉन्ट install करके a s d f और j k l ; पर हाथ जमाएँ। स्क्रीन देखकर टाइप करें, कीबोर्ड नहीं। इस हफ़्ते सिर्फ़ सही जगह उँगली रखना सीखना है, रफ़्तार बिल्कुल नहीं।
Week 2
ऊपर और नीचे की row जोड़ें
एक-एक करके row बढ़ाएँ। ि की आदत यहीं डालें — यह व्यंजन से पहले दबती है और स्क्रीन पर अपने आप सही जगह चली जाती है। शुरू में उल्टा लगेगा, हफ़्ते के आख़िर तक सामान्य हो जाएगा।
Week 3
आधे अक्षर और संयुक्त अक्षर
क्ष, त्र, ज्ञ और आधे अक्षर वाले शब्द रोज़ दोहराएँ। यही वे जगहें हैं जहाँ अदृश्य मात्रा की गलती सबसे ज़्यादा होती है।
Week 4
Word-lock के साथ टाइप करना शुरू करें
अब हर शब्द को Space दबाने से पहले सही करना है। रफ़्तार गिरेगी — गिरने दें। यही आदत परीक्षा में अंक बचाती है।
Week 5
पूरे दस मिनट के टेस्ट
रोज़ एक हिन्दी और एक अंग्रेजी टेस्ट, पूरा समय। हिन्दी में 144 सही शब्द 9 अंक देते हैं, पर लक्ष्य 250 से ऊपर रखें — अंक मेरिट में जुड़ते हैं।
Week 6
दक्षता परीक्षण की तैयारी
MS Word में header, footer, page border, table border, spacing और find-replace रोज़ दोहराएँ। Kruti Dev 010 फॉन्ट में ही अभ्यास करें। यह आधे अंक हैं और सबसे कम मेहनत में मिलते हैं।
Six mistakes that cost candidates marks
Mangal INSCRIPT पर अभ्यास करना
सबसे आम और सबसे महँगी गलती। INSCRIPT और DevLys 010 की keys लगभग पूरी तरह अलग हैं। महीनों की INSCRIPT प्रैक्टिस काम नहीं आएगी, बल्कि शुरू में नुक़सान करेगी।
Backspace खुला रखकर अभ्यास करना
आम टाइपिंग ऐप पर शब्द कभी लॉक नहीं होता, तो आदत बन जाती है पीछे जाकर सुधारने की। परीक्षा में Space दबते ही शब्द जम जाता है और वह आदत सीधे अंक खाती है।
दक्षता परीक्षण को हल्के में लेना
सौ में से पचास अंक इसी के हैं और इसमें टाइपिंग की रफ़्तार का कोई रोल नहीं। जो उम्मीदवार आठ हफ़्ते सिर्फ़ speed पर लगाते हैं, वे यहाँ आसान अंक गँवा देते हैं।
जो पूछा नहीं गया वह भी कर देना
दक्षता परीक्षण में अतिरिक्त formatting के अंक नहीं मिलते। इससे भी बुरा — पहले से दिए पैराग्राफ़ या टेबल को बदल दिया तो उस पर किए सही काम के भी अंक कट जाते हैं।
सिर्फ़ 9 अंक का लक्ष्य रखना
9 अंक सिर्फ़ बाहर होने से बचाते हैं। अंक मेरिट में जुड़ते हैं, इसलिए हर अतिरिक्त सही शब्द रैंक सुधारता है। 10,644 पदों की भर्ती में यही फ़र्क डालता है।
आम हिन्दी परिच्छेदों पर अभ्यास
RSSB के परिच्छेदों में प्रशासनिक हिन्दी आती है — अधिसूचना, तहसील, राजस्व, पंचायती। SSC वाले सामान्य पैराग्राफ़ से यह अभ्यास नहीं होता।

हर पेपर में 25 में से कम से कम 9 अंक चाहिए, और यह चारों पेपर पर अलग-अलग लागू होता है। किसी एक में भी 9 से कम आए तो बाकी अच्छे होने पर भी आप बाहर हो जाएँगे। अनुसूचित जाति और अनुसूचित जनजाति के अभ्यर्थियों को न्यूनतम अंकों में 5 प्रतिशत तक की छूट मिलती है।
It is the second half of Phase-II, worth 50 of the 100 marks, and it has nothing to do with typing speed. It runs in MS Word 2013 and MS Excel 2013 in both languages and tests formatting — paragraph formatting, paging, header, footer, font, background, table border, spacing and word replace. You get 15 separate questions for each language on a printed paper at the exam, 25 marks and 10 minutes each, with the same minimum of nine.
हर पेपर 10 मिनट का है और कुल चार पेपर हैं, यानी 40 मिनट का टंकण भाग। एक बार टेस्ट शुरू होने पर पूरा समय चलेगा — जल्दी ख़त्म करके बाहर नहीं निकल सकते।
DevLys 010 on a standard keyboard, using the Remington GAIL layout. It is a non-Unicode font so it has to be installed separately. In the efficiency test the font appears already selected in MS Word as Kruti Dev 010. English typing uses the commonly used font on a normal QWERTY keyboard.
टाइप करने के लिहाज़ से कोई अंतर नहीं — दोनों की key mapping एक ही है, बस फ़ॉन्ट फ़ाइल का नाम अलग है। इसलिए जो अभ्यर्थी पहले से Kruti Dev 010 में टाइप करते हैं, उन्हें RSSB के लिए नया लेआउट सीखने की ज़रूरत नहीं। असली फ़र्क Mangal INSCRIPT से है, जिसकी keys लगभग पूरी तरह अलग जगह हैं।
Only until you press Enter or the Space-Bar for the next word. After that Back-Space stops working on that word and the mistake is permanent. This is the rule that decides the whole strategy — a word typed slowly and correctly earns its marks, a word typed fast and wrongly earns nothing and cannot be repaired. In the efficiency test Back-Space works normally, and CTRL+Z is allowed there too.
हिन्दी में 400 शब्दों का परिच्छेद और अंग्रेजी में 500 शब्दों का। हिन्दी में हर सही शब्द पर 0.0625 अंक और अंग्रेजी में 0.05 अंक मिलते हैं। यानी 9 अंक के लिए हिन्दी में 144 और अंग्रेजी में 180 सही शब्द चाहिए — पर पूरे अंक तभी मिलेंगे जब पूरा परिच्छेद सही टाइप हो।
कोई तय WPM सीमा नहीं है — अंक प्रति सही शब्द मिलते हैं। फिर भी अगर WPM में समझना हो तो 9 अंक के लिए हिन्दी में लगभग 14.4 WPM और अंग्रेजी में 18 WPM काफ़ी है, जबकि पूरे 25 अंक के लिए हिन्दी में 40 और अंग्रेजी में 50 WPM चाहिए।
Merit based, and this is what separates it from most other state typing tests. The marks are added to the final merit calculation rather than acting only as a pass or fail gate. Clearing nine keeps you in the process, but every additional mark improves your rank — so aiming only at the qualifying floor is a mistake, especially across a large vacancy count.
कोई अंतर नहीं — एक ही बोर्ड है। राजस्थान अधीनस्थ एवं मंत्रालयिक सेवा चयन बोर्ड (RSMSSB) का नाम 2023 में बदलकर राजस्थान कर्मचारी चयन बोर्ड (RSSB) कर दिया गया। फ़ॉन्ट, नियम, चारों पेपर और अंक देने का तरीक़ा सब वही है। दोनों नाम अब भी अधिसूचनाओं और चर्चा में चलते हैं।
Dakshata pariksha is the efficiency test — papers 3 and 4. It is conducted in MS Word 2013 and MS Excel 2013 and checks whether you can format a document, not how fast you type. A paragraph and a table are already loaded on screen and you work on them according to a printed question paper. Marks are given only for the tasks actually asked for.
No. All four papers are compulsory and each carries its own minimum of nine marks. A candidate who scores full marks in both speed papers but misses the minimum in one efficiency paper is declared unsuccessful. Since the efficiency papers are half the total marks and need far less preparation time than typing speed, skipping them is the most expensive decision available.
DevLys 010, बिना किसी शक के। RSSB हिन्दी टंकण में यही अनिवार्य है। Mangal INSCRIPT की keys अलग जगह हैं, इसलिए उस पर की गई महीनों की मेहनत यहाँ काम नहीं आएगी — बल्कि शुरुआत में पुरानी आदत नुक़सान करेगी। Mangal INSCRIPT वाली परीक्षाएँ अलग हैं, जैसे SSC CHSL और UPSSSC।
Open MS Word and practise the nine topics the directions name — paragraph formatting, paging, header, footer, font, background, table border, spacing and word replace — in Kruti Dev 010 rather than a Unicode font, because the working experience differs. Do it against a clock. One thing to drill specifically: do only what the question asks, because altering the pre-loaded paragraph or table beyond the task forfeits marks for correct work on it as well.
The board hedges on it. The note printed directly beneath the Hindi keyboard image says the keyboard shown is illustrative only, that candidates should check it against the DevLys 010 font, and that some keys may differ from the illustration. That is why so many DevLys charts online contradict each other — several were traced from that illustration rather than from the font. The font itself is the authority.
