Common Mistakes During the PSSSB Senior Assistant Typing Test

These mistakes happen inside the exam room — not during preparation. Knowing them in advance eliminates them.

Rushing straight into typing without reading
The passage is on screen before the timer starts. Candidates who begin typing immediately without scanning the passage miss unfamiliar words and proper nouns that require slowing down. Take 20–30 seconds to scan the full passage before placing your hands on the keyboard.

Pressing Enter before completing 80% of chunk
The chunk interface requires at least 80% completion before Enter advances you. Candidates who press Enter early thinking they can skip ahead find themselves stuck or losing progress on that chunk. Complete the visible chunk properly before pressing Enter.

Clock anxiety causing accuracy to drop at the end
When candidates see 2–3 minutes remaining, they speed up. Typing faster than your current skill level immediately drops accuracy below 92%. The last 3 minutes of the test are where most errors are made. Maintain your practiced pace — 10 words per minute beyond the target is enough.

Muscle memory confusion switching between English and Punjabi
English and Punjabi tests are on the same day. Candidates who finish English and immediately start Punjabi sometimes type English characters on the Raavi keyboard for the first 30–60 seconds. Always take a deliberate pause between the two tests to consciously reset your hands.

PSSSB Senior Assistant — What Happens After You Clear the Typing Test

From result declaration to joining day — the complete post-exam process for Senior Assistant.

Step 01
Typing test result
Results are declared on sssb.punjab.gov.in typically 3–6 weeks after the typing test concludes. The result shows pass/fail status only — no marks are assigned. Both languages must show "Pass" for the candidate to proceed.
Step 02
Merit list publication
The final merit list is prepared using written exam marks only. Typing test is a qualifying gate — it does not contribute to your score. Candidates are ranked purely on written exam performance among those who cleared typing.
Step 03
Document verification
Shortlisted candidates are called for document verification. Required documents typically include graduation degree, 10+2 certificate, computer certificate (120 hours or O Level), category certificate if applicable, and residence proof. All originals plus photocopies required.
Step 04
Police verification
Character and antecedents verification is conducted through the local police station of the candidate's permanent residence. This typically takes 4–8 weeks. Any pending criminal cases are grounds for disqualification.
Step 05
Medical examination
A medical fitness examination is conducted at a government hospital. Standard vision, hearing, and general fitness tests. Candidates with specific medical conditions should check the notification for exemption provisions.
Step 06
Joining and probation
Appointment letter is issued on successful completion of all stages. Senior Assistant joins on probation for 2 years. During probation, performance is evaluated and the post is confirmed on satisfactory completion.
